This relatively small park located in Cupertino’s Monta Vista neighborhood is packed with interesting things to see and do. In the ’30s and ’40s, it was a horse ranch owned by the McClellan family, some of the first people to settle in the area.

Today, the original barns and ranch house are preserved, along with a replica of Baer’s Blacksmith Shop that was moved from the corner of De Anza and Stevens Creek Boulevard, and an old water tower that was moved from the Parish Ranch (now Memorial Park). This seems to be Cupertino’s answer to the open-air museums of Europe, which collect historic buildings from across the land.

McClellan Park has a Nature Museum, where volunteers tend to live animals. During open houses, which occur during the school year on Fridays 3-5pm and Saturdays 11am-3pm, visitors can meet cows, miniature ponies and other creatures face to face.

McClellan also has a community garden and nature trails, including one that leads to the neighboring Blackberry Farm. The densely wooded creek side provides shelter for more than 100 bird species, from orioles, starlings and robins to thrushes, woodpeckers and kinglets.
